The Friendship Garden is one of my Sacred places on our Family’s Farm that I retreat to for tranquility, grounding and being in God’s Presence. My entire life from as far back as I remember about age 3, I loved being in the garden, for work or play. I especially loved all the flowers. I would gather those beautiful yellow blooms that popped up all over the yard and proudly present them to my mother as a surprise. Not realizing they were a weed! Mom accepted them with great pride & joy and filled a vase with water to display my fresh picked bundle. What can I say, “Blooms” are part of my DNA!
My husband & I moved from the suburbs to our rural family farm in 1998. It was our vision and dream to start a Flower Farm. At the time we owned a fresh florist in the Chicagoland suburbs. Each season we would prepare the grounds for a new garden. Growing flowers for cutting. Then my husband became ill and the gardens became my place for healing and mental therapy. I could spend an hour in the garden and all of life was put into perspective. In 2007, my husband past away. I was devastated! Again I returned to my gardens for peace, comfort, answers and tranquility.
In 2009, a landscape designer friend and I teamed up to cultivate The Friendship Garden of Blooms & Rooms. It was a Sacred Space for our friendship to grow as well as the ability to invite kindred hearts to gather and share gardening experiences. You see, I believe the garden is a great place to learn valuable life lessons. Tilling the soil, planting seeds, nurturing, cultivating, weeding, tending, harvesting are all symbolic phases in life’s journey. Each is a “season of life”.”To plant a garden is to have Faith.” Life began in a garden as in Genesis of the Bible. Flowers are a God-Given Gift to all of us. God IS our Master Gardener and He has a plan for each of us!
For a few years I steered from my Calling of being a Steward of the Land while I pursued building my retail silk floral and interior design business. It was what I knew, my comfort zone. But, my heart kept calling me home, to the Family Farm, to the garden. After 6 months of taking a sabbatical from retail business I have been given another opportunity to serve God’s Bigger Plan. To live my life’s calling of a Higher Purpose. I claim & embrace my dreams. With God as my partner of this huge vision and venture.
As I move forward I am renaming the garden as The Friendship Garden of Joy. For it is my great joy & honor to work this Sacred farmland, plant the seeds of faith, hope & love, nurture relationships, and grow in prosperity. There is much work to be done!!! The Friendship Garden of Joy is scheduled to open to visitors by invitation,
later this season with classes.
